UPdaaaaaaaaaaaate

Whazzup my homies. Hows it hanging. How have you been since my last post?

I've been great. I've covered myself in honey and cornflakes, met a cast member from the X-files, been hit on by rich older guys, dressed up in my 20s outfits, sang on the royal mile in front of a crowd, been to a hippie party, spent quality time with an ex-boyfriend, and eaten lots and lots of almost-malaysian food.

Not all at the same time, mind you.

But I've had fun. It's nice to be young and free (and dare I say it - attractive) in Edinburgh with a bit of money on your hands.

It's not all fun and games of course, but most of the time I have the feeling that I'm running headlong, arms outstretched, laughing gleefully.

I guess I should put things into context...

First of all the Edinburgh Fringe is on and my friend randomly met Dean Haglund (one of the Lone Gunmen from the X-files) who gave him 2 free tickets to his improv show, so I was the happy receiver of the second ticket. It was quite a good show, although strained in parts (I get the feeling we weren't as cooperative as he is used to - restrained british audience vs american ones).

Then on Friday my friend threw a "Food and Fantasy" themed party, and being the lame ass I am I couldn't think of a costume so threw on the trusty schoolgirl uniform (I used it to dress up for Harry Potter), tied my hair up in bunches (think Britney) and pasted cornflakes to myself with honey - hence becoming a Cornflake Girl. The party was totally hippie as it was held in his back garden late at night with fire and food and was kinda fun apart from the random guy who totally dissed Harry Potter although he had never read it, and went on about the His Dark Materials trilogy, which I have read part one of and didn't think was very good. Whatever. Then we drank some whisky (well ok I had a swig) and went off to The Spiegeltent and danced to some cheesy music - and where I got hit on by an older but obviously very rich man. After a short conversation where he found out I was both much too young for him and a geek, he retreated very quickly, much to my amusement.

Saturday I had to fulfill A's lost bet (he owes me big time) so I dressed up in my black polka dot dress and fedora and hit the town with my friends. There were 4 of us - D started off with "Dream a little dream", I followed with "Beyond the Sea", AT followed me with a stunning rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" (we both actually had random people stop and watch for a while) and S finished up with "It's Raining Men".... and since he lost the highest bet he tore off his shirt at the end and poured water on himself. Hilarious!

I went off to work (the second) where it was very busy and I realised my boss stresses out really quickly and becomes very bitchy when she does (one of the customers commented on it - I loved him :D), but finally finished at about 1:30 where I checked my phone and found a message from the ex, saying he was up in Edinburgh for the night. So even though I was tired I gave him a ring and we met up and had a chat at the bus stop - he ended up coming back to mine, scaring my flatmate, and crashing on the couch. We went for breakfast and coffee/tea the next morning before he left to meet up with other people. It was really good to see him again - it's funny how someone can be so much a part of your life and then disappear from your life.

What else.... I'm having a good time with my job (the first) - my supervisors are awesome and I have a lot of fun with them. They probably don't realise this. But we have long meetings together where they just talk on and on and I try to keep up. I input every so often, but mostly I let them go for it. They're both amazingly smart and it's somewhat nerveracking to have 2 PhDs looking at your code, but they're really cool. One of them has awesome hair and he's quite cool - he wears rainbow socks :D and he's quite chilled out. He goes over things with me - I pretty much learnt the basic concepts of coding for supercomputers with him. The other guy you can tell is amazingly smart, and very exciteable, he kind of blusters - thinks aloud - he'll be like "I don't get it, the grid, with the, ohhhhh ok". I think they're fun.

Also I ran into some of the guys from CS last night - they're doing a competition where they program a game in 10 weeks and apparently they've got so many game industry professionals interested - the guy I was speaking to, D, was so excited he talked at me for about an hour and a half and he kept on saying "it's soooo surreal, I just can't believe it's happening". So cute, and I'm so very excited for them. :)

Also also I watched "Breakout" at the Fringe Festival - it was awesome! It was really sad at the end though. Other shows I've watched...
Barbara Morrison, Dean Haglund, 4 on the Floor, Legend of the Sword (not great), hmmmm that's all I can think of at the moment. I'm sure I've seen more...

OH and ALSO my bully from my 13 year old days contacted me on facebook and after much deliberation I'm in contact with her - she seems nice enough now. She never struck me as very deliberately cruel - the last day of school we had a little conversation and she was like "it was all in fun, you know?" and I was like "yeah, sure". I mean I guess I sound like a walkover after all that shit she did, but it must've seemed 20x worse because I'd just moved.

Yeah. So... having a great time. :)
