Being Single and Staying Single 101
...
#57. Don't say "ok" when what you really mean is "Oh, wow. You really shocked me there and I'm slightly confused at the moment. Hang on a second while I gather my thoughts. Ok I think you're a really nice guy, and I really mean it, and maybe if you'd asked me some other time when I'm not in the middle of 3rd year of a science course at Uni and working until 11 every night and not just out of a year long relationship, then I might've said yes. However, I am in the middle of a 3rd year of a science course at Uni and just out of a year long relationship, so, I'm really sorry, but no. But hey, I think you're cool, so let's hang out and be friends!"
Yes "ok" is a lot less shorter but you don't really get the point across. Also, you will have to fix the damage done and create more damage with a text message later on. Which is just uncool.
Being Single and Staying Single (revised: CS female version) 101
#1. If you get an e-mail from a guy asking you to go somewhere with him and you think it might be a date but you're just not really sure... assume it is and don't go even if you really want to go to that particular place/event.
#2. Yes being asked on dates via e-mail is funny and cute in a dorkish way but do have a look around the lab before you show it to your friend and ask her opinion on it. You never know who might be sitting three rows behind you!

And yes... in case you were wondering! Different guy from the post below. Apparently it's so easy to find my e-mail on the course webpage as there just aren't that many 'Zara's in my uni studying computer science in third year.
On another note! Went to see Bob Dylan with Eamon on Thursday. It was fantastic, but Bob Dylan really really can't sing now. But hey... Bob Dylan!
Merry Birfday Eamon-san!
