The blindfold of friendship

They say that love is blind, and I never thought I could fall into that trap. Yet recently I have experienced something strange.

Ever notice how when you stop being friends with someone you notice their shortcomings and their flaws more? Is it because you're looking out for something to justify the end to your friendship, or just because when you are friends you don't notice them, your love, in fact, blinds you to them? I think it's kind of like spending so much time with someone is like looking at them close up, and you don't see all the 'flaws' or they just don't matter to you. But once you step away, once you see them from afar, they become so apparent that you wonder why you never saw it in the first place. And if you did see them, why they nevver seemed so large flaws.

So now do you feel disappointment or sadness? Disappointment that someone you held in such high regard should harbour these shortcomings, or sadness that someone you love/d can have so many things wrong with them?

It was not my choice to end the friendship, but I am surprised and saddened by the flaws. Love, truly, is blind.
